1,913 Pass 2011 Bar Exams


A total of 1,913 law graduates or 31.95 percent of those who actually took the tests passed the 2011 Bar examinations administered by the Supreme Court (SC) in November last year.
In a press briefing, SC Spokesman and Court Administrator Jose Midas P. Marquez said the percentage of those who passed the 2011 bar examinations is the second highest rate since the 32.89 per cent in 2001.

Cash-For-Work Plan Implemented

Energy Lack Hounds Mindanao


Power generation deficiency, not the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP), is to be blamed for the daily brownouts that have been plaguing Mindanao for weeks the company stressed Thursday.
“(NGCP) maintains that the cause of the daily power curtailment in the Mindanao Grid is the acute shortage of power in the region, not any transmission-related issue,” the private firm said.

Diet soda tied to heart attack, stroke risks: study


 Diet soda may benefit the waistline, but a new study suggests that people who drink it every day have a heightened risk of heart attack and stroke.
The study, which followed almost 2,600 older adults for a decade, found that those who drank diet soda every day were 44 percent more likely than non-drinkers to suffer a heart attack or stroke.

Daily Brownouts Grip Mindanao

Coroners on Sunday completed their autopsy on the body of singer Whitney Houston and confirmed that she was found in the bathtub of her Beverly Hills hotel room, but said the cause of death would not be determined until more lab tests were completed.
Ed Winter, assistant chief coroner for Los Angeles County, revealed little about the autopsy at a news conference, but said medical examiners found no visible signs of trauma or foul play.
