30 Candidates Vie For 2012 Bb. Pilipinas
Last year’s runners-up and 28 others will vie for the prestigious 2012 Bb. Pilipinas titles. The girls were presented during a press preview held at the Gateway Suites, Araneta Center in Cubao, Quezon City recently.
2011 first runner-up Janine Tugonon (Bataan) will go head-on with second runner-up Mary Jean Lastimosa, of Quezon City, in the grand coronation night to be held at Smart-Araneta Coliseum in Cubao on April 25.
Asked how she’s taking the pressure, Lastimosa, 24, said: “If you really want it, why not do it now? I think it’s a good thing that we’re here. And she’s like a sister to me (referring to Tugonon).”
Tugonon, 22, said: “With hard work, we can do it. At least there are three titles at stake and we don’t have to fight it out for one title.”
The three titles at stake are Bb. Pilipinas-Universe, Bb. Pilipinas-International and Bb. Pilipinas-Tourism. They will represent the Philippines in international pageants to be announced later.
Also present at the event were three reigning queens – 2011 Miss Universe 3rd Runner-Up Shamcey Supsup, Miss International semi-finalist Dianne Necio and Miss Tourism Queen International Miss Charity special awardee Isabella Manjon.
“Be yourself and believe in everything you do. We’re here to support them and help them,” Supsup said.
Necio said that the candidates get better and better every year. “I just hope that we get another crown this year – not just for semis or runners-up.”
But Manjon said that the candidates should be prepared for the pressures of the pageant. They should also enjoy their company and be friendly.
Filipinos with foreign blood also made it to the final cut – Karen Gallman and Nicole Schmitz, from Australia; and Chloe Zanardi, of Milan, Italy. Other candidates who made the cut include Marie Virgenia Cecilie Peter, Fer Mary Baliquig, Roxanne Tadique, Rose Ann Aguilar, Sherlyn Gonzales, Maxine Medina, Jaine Hidalgo, Marie Irisha Arcenas, Katrina Jayne Dimaranan, Goldy Baroa, Giselle Angelica Muñoz, Angelee Muñoz, Jillean Camille Orbina, Liezl Alcantara, Nicole Marable, Annalie Forbes, Gina Joy Howell, Patricia Lae Ejercitado, Anna Czarina Buenviaje, Roxanne Joy Jesalva, Elaine Moll, Meiji Cruz, Golda Soller, Romelin De Castro, and Maria Alicia Ariosa.
Winners of the celebrated beauty titles serve as official Philippine representatives to renowned international pageants. They will be joining Gloria Diaz, Miss Universe 1969; Margie Moran, Miss Universe 1973; Aurora Pijuan, Miss International 1970; Melanie Marquez, Miss International 1979; Ruffa Gutierrez, Miss World 2nd Princess 1993; Miriam Quiambao, Miss Universe 1st Runner-Up 1999; Precious Lara Quigaman, Miss International 2005; Maria Venus Raj, Miss Universe 4th Runner-Up 2010; and Shamcey Supsup, Miss Universe 3rd Runner-Up 2011 in an impressive roster of beauty queens that the pageant has produced.
