HIV/Aids Linked To Social Media


The Department of Health (DOH) recently released a study indicating the HIV/AIDS cases are escalating and it was found that social networking is a contributing factor to this increase in HIV cases.
The study, entitled “OSN (online social network) Use and Risks for HIV and other Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STD) among men Having Sex with Men (MSM),” was done from Sept 1 t Nov. 4 by a team of epidemiologists from the DOH led by Dr. Jovin Maestro.

Afghans Are Embracing Social Media


Ten years after the fall of the Taliban, who banned modern technology as un-Islamic, the use of social media in Afghanistan is booming as politicians, warlords and even militants rush to get their message across.
The hardline Islamists who ruled Afghanistan from 1996 to 2001 and forbade the use of the Internet, deeming it a Western propaganda tool, now regularly use Twitter to promote their ideas and boast about attacks on NATO forces.

From chatroom to bedroom


Social media has inadvertently aided the spread of the HIV in the Philippines according to an ongoing study by the Department of Health (DOH).
Health Assistant Secretary Dr. Eric Tayag revealed that social media use contributed to increased sexual activity and heightened risk of HIV transmission.
The completion of the study, according to Tayag, will enable DOH to understand and address the problem.
