Home-based blogger tops TESDA contest

A home-based blogger from Batuan, Bohol won the top prize in the first blog entry contest held by the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA).

The grand prize winner, Irish Blanca D. Igcol, 26, published her winning piece, “Sa TESDA, May Choice Ka” in her blog site, Creative Thoughts, winning over 23 other blog entries.

Search is on for Batang Tesda

Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) has come up with a new recognition for its outstanding youth graduates in technical education and skills development (TESD).

The TESDA Best, Batang TESDA 2012 Award has been launched to find the best among TESD graduates who are not over 30 years old and have attained the skills excellence and success in their chosen trade careers.

TESDA has two existing institutional awards for outstanding skilled workers and technicians and partners in skills development. These are the Idol ng TESDA Award and the Kabalikat Award. However, no such recognition has ever been given to successful young workers.

TESDA sets National Assessment

A batch of at least 60, 000 skilled workers and technicians will be added to the registry of certified workers or ‘specialistas’ as TESDA holds a nationwide skills assessment and certification starting this month.

The second National TVET Competency Assessment and Certification (NATCAC) will be held nationwide on three separate dates starting July 9. TVET trainers and returning overseas Filipino workers are also expected to sit for the competency assessment.

TESDA training programs go online

Students, out-of-school youths, unemployed adults, and overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) need not go to a training center anymore to learn job skills, be certified and qualified for employment. They can now take select training programs through their desktops or laptop computers,  at their own pace and time,  in the comforts of their homes or worksites.

TESDA Training

The Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) is giving the out-of-school youths (OSY) another crack at education and improve their chances of landing a job or starting a business of their own.

According to TESDA Director General Joel Villanueva, the training program and employment opportunities for 7,000 OSYs is in partnership with the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE).

K-To-12 'Does Not Assure Work'

Education Secretary Armin Luistro said on Thursday that while the curriculum for the Enhanced K to 12 Basic Education Program will be sufficient to prepare students for work, it is not an “assurance” that the graduates will have jobs after six years of high school.

“We don’t want to give false hopes or empty promises,” said Luistro in an interview. “Assurance of job is not just a function of the Department of Education (DepEd) but also of the students themselves and the environment,” he said.

Christopher Davocol enrolled in a three-year automotive technology course at the Davao National Agricultural School (DNAS) in Montevista, Campostela Valley in June 2003. He listened attentively to lectures and took down notes for his reference. He worked with gusto on his workshop projects and hands-on learning exercises. He also read books in auto servicing, watched videos in automotive technology, and downloaded related information from the internet.

TESDA going after former officials

The Technical Education Skills and Development Authority (TESDA) on Thursday vowed to try its best to go after officials liable for the misdeeds in the agency particularly those appointed during the previous administration.

TESDA Director General Joel Villanueva said the findings of the Commission on Audit (CoA) on the illegal transfer of TESDA funds to non-government organizations during the previous administration have “bolstered our own findings of irregularities of the fund use.”

Implementation strategies for K+12 mulled

The Department of Education (DepEd), Commission on Higher Education (CHEd) and the Technical Education Skills Development Authority (TESDA) are in earnest discussion regarding how to ensure the smooth transition from the 10-year education cycle to the K+12 basic education curriculum.

In a recent conference in Cebu City, the agencies raised the need to forge public-private partnerships with higher education institutions and private schools.

8.5M tech-voc expected enrollees by the end of 2016

The Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) disclosed that it is targeting the enrollment of 8.5 million people in various technical vocational courses by the end of 2016.

TESDA Director General Joel Villanueva disclosed that TESDA is hoping that 8,487,070 people would have been enrolled by the end of 2016. He said TESDA aims to have 7,715,610 students or 90 percent finishing their courses.
