K To 12 Grading System


 With the implementation of the K to 12 Basic Education Program, the traditional numerical values in the report cards of students will no longer appear. Instead, the Department of Education (DepEd) will be using a new grading system to assess and rate learning outcomes of students in public elementary and high schools.

DepEd to assess English skills of grade school teachers


The Department of Education (DepEd) will assess the English skills and other proficiencies of Grades 1 and 2 teachers in public schools to map out a training program to prepare them for the implementation of the Kindergarten to 12 (K-12) basic education curriculum (BEC).

DepEd drops 'Science' for pupils


The Department of Education (DepEd) has decided to drop “Science” from the roster of subjects taken up by incoming Grade 1 pupils in line with its efforts to decongest the Basic Education Curriculum and to make learning more enjoyable to young learners.
Education Secretary Armin Luistro said that the move to exclude Science in Grade 1 subjects starting this coming school year is based on the design of K to 12 curriculum. “The overall design of the new curriculum to be introduced and implemented this coming June to both Grade 1 and First Year high school students is based on the idea that we should be taking the students where they are,” Luistro said in an interview.

DepEd limits tests


The Department of Education (DepEd) Monday prohibited all regions and divisions in the public school system beginning school year 2012-2013 from using assessment tools aside from the National Achievement Test (NAT) when gauging students’ performances.
Education Secretary Armin Luistro said that discontinuing the conduct of all scheduled Regional Achievement Tests (RAT) and Division Achievement Tests (DAT) is in line “with the transition phase in the implementation of the K-to-12 Basic Education Curriculum.”
