DOLE Pushes Short-Term Courses

Students who want to get employment fast might want to consider getting short-term courses on food and beverage.

Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) Secretary Rosalinda Baldoz, in a statement, said students who were not able to enroll in tertiary education should consider looking into the short-term food and beverage (F&B) courses that are available in many technical-vocational schools in the country such as those for waiters and waitresses, baristas, bartenders, cooks, and kitchen helpers.

Skills Training For UAE OFWs

The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) said it is now in the process of forging a new partnership with the United Arab Emirates (UAE), which will guaran¬tee skills training to overseas Filipino workers (OFW) who will be deployed to that Middle East country.

Labor and Employment Secretary Rosalinda Baldoz said in an interview that UAE Ministry of Labor Saqr Gho-bash Saeed Ghobash proposed the proj¬ect during his visit last week, wherein OFWs could avail of skills training.

The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) said Wednesday there will be no mass displacement in Mindanao amid the ongoing power shortage in the region.

Undersecretary Lourdes Transmonte made the reaction despite the increasing number of establishments which have reported a slowdown in their operations due to the frequent schedule brownouts.

Some Alternatives To Summer Jobs

The Department of Labor and Employment with the participation of several private companies is currently implementing provisions of RA. 7323 entitled, “An Act to Help Poor But Deserving Students Pursue their Education By Encouraging their Employment During Summer and/or Christmas Vacations.” Under this law, employers pay only sixty percent (60%) of their salaries while the 40% is shouldered by the government and paid through Edu-cation Vouchers.

Cash-For-Work Plan Implemented

To help relieve the hardship facing residents of the region following the recent massive floods, the national government last weekend released the funds for cash-for-work beneficiaries in the cities of Cagayan de Oro and Iligan.

At least 1,000 beneficiaries, all victims of the recent flash floods caused by tropical “Sendong,” will initially benefit from the cash-for-work program implemented by the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE).
