WBO names Pacquiao ‘Fighter of the Decade’

Even if he has only fought under the World Boxing Organization (WBO) four times, the Puerto Rico-based governing body yesterday named the Filipino superstar and ex-welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao as its Fighter of the Decade during the ongoing 25th WBO convention in Florida.

Pacquiao only became a WBO champion in late-2009 after he beat Miguel Cotto for the welterweight title. He defended it successfully twice against Shane Mosley of the US and Juan Manuel Marquez of Mexico before losing it to Tim Bradley last June on a controversial split decision.

For the first time, boxer-politician Manny Pacquiao entered Forbes’ yearly list of the 20 Highest-Paid Celebrities, ranking 16th with $67 million in earnings.

Despite Pacquiao’s controversial loss to Timothy Bradley in their June bout—the former's first defeat inside the ring in seven years—the Sarangani representative continues to enjoy a lucrative career. Forbes wrote: “Pacquiao has become a pay-per-view stud, with five fights each generating at least one million PPV buys during the past four years.”

Pacquiao Family Enjoys Vacation In Israel

In his quest to learn more about the Bible, boxing champ Manny Pacquiao, his wife Jinky and his children spent a week-long vacation in Israel.

As reported exclusively by Dyan Castillejo on “TV Patrol,” July 18, Manny ang his family visited the historic places where Jesus Christ set foot. They rode a sailboat to reach the Sea of Galilee where Jesus is believed to have walked, and even visited Jordan River where Jesus Christ was baptized.

Pacman To Make Hollywood Debut Via Rob Schneider-Benecio del Toro Starrer

Boxing champ Manny Pacquiao is adding yet another tick in his long-list of accomplishments by making a Hollywood film.

According to the “Unang Hirit” report on Monday, cameras will start rolling for “Brass Knuckles” next month in Los Angeles. Damian Perkins, the film’s producer, said in an ABS-CBN report last month that they aim to wrap up post-production either August or September this year so they could release it in 2013.

A Filipino-American lass will sing the Philippine National Anthem before the world stage when Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao fights American Timothy Bradley on June 9 in Las Vegas, ABS-CBN News reported Saturday.

Kirby Asunto, a 14-year-old New Yorker, was handpicked by Pacquiao to follow in the footsteps of Charice, Arnel Pineda, and Maria Aragon, who sang “Lupang Hinirang” in Pacquiao’s previous bouts.

Pacquiao Eyes Biggest Payday

Manny Pacquiao will earn his biggest paycheck in his fight against Tim Bradley on June 9 in Las Vegas, Hall of Fame promoter Bob Arum said Thursday.

“Manny’s going to get his biggest guaranteed purse in this fight with Bradley,” Arum told the Manila Bulletin from his Las Vegas home.

Pacman now Bible ambassador

Sarangani representative Manny Pacquiao has accepted the offer of the Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) to be their Bible ambassador.

The pound for pound king stated in an interview with “TV Patrol” aired Feb. 1 that in accepting his new designation, he hopes to “encourage ang lahat ng mga tao na magbasa ng Bible.”

"January 16th was Dr. Martin Luther King Birthday, January 17th is Muhammad Ali Birthday and May 5th is Pacquiao ass whooping day," he posted.

Pacquiao eyes Cotto at 147 lbs.

After learning a painful lesson in a weight class that doesn’t suit his body, Manny Pacquiao will demand that his next fight — very likely against Miguel Cotto of Puerto Rico on June 9 — would be at the welterweight limit of 147 lbs.

“It’s hard for me to fight at a higher weight class,” Pacquiao told the Bulletin when asked whether a rematch with Cotto can still be made.

Pacquiao camp rejects May 5 Mayweather fight

Manny Pacquiao’s camp says there is no economic sense in setting up a bout with Floyd Mayweather on May 5 after the unbeaten American publicly challenged the Filipino champion via Twitter.

Pacquiao’s financial adviser Michael Koncz told The Associated Press Thursday that a 45,000-seat boxing arena being built in Las Vegas, Nevada, won’t be finished before the end of May and staging the Pacquiao-Mayweather fight in a smaller venue is “foolish from an economic standpoint.”

Jinkee Pacquiao gives Pacman a customized bus on his birthday

Thinking about her husband’s comfort while on transit, Jinkee Pacquiao gave Manny Pacquiao a customized bus as birthday gift.

“Binigyan niya raw si Manny na isang bus na may sarili pa raw kuwarto at banyo sa loob,” the report on “Showbiz Central” on Dec. 18 said.

“‘Yung bus? Kasi minsan nagpupuyat siya so gusto kong maging komportable ‘yung pagpahinga niya sa sasakyan kasi sa Escalade parang masikip,” Jinky explained.

Pacquiao invites Prince of Brunei to his birthday party

Boxer-congressman Manny Pacquiao’s birthday celebration on Dec. 17 will apparently be another star-studded affair as numerous luminaries were invited to grace the occasion.

The party might just have a royal touch as the Pacquiao Group of Companies has sent an invitation to the Prince of Brunei, reported Bomboradyo on Dec. 15. It wasn’t stated, though if, the Prince has already confirmed his attendance.

Jinkee, Manny and their story of reconciliation

At least that is what the friends of the high profile couple are saying now that the smoke has cleared between husband and wife.

The story according to unimpeachable sources is that when Jinkee Pacquiao left the country to watch the fight of Manny against Marquez last Nov. 12 in Las Vegas, she was armed with a lot of papers for the confrontation with her husband.

The actor-boxer nonetheless appeared cool when asked about having been displaced by Floyd Mayweather, Jr. from the top spot of the pound-for-pound rankings of ESPN, Sports Illustrated and Yahoo! Sports.

Manny Pacquiao’s much-debated win against Juan Manuel Marquez has apparently affected the former’s overall standing in boxing as he moved from the top spot to second place in both ESPN and Sports Illustrated’s (SI) pound-for-pound tally.

The fighting congressman from Sarangani was displaced by Floyd Mayweather, Jr., whom fans dream for his next opponent.
