Last night, my sister bought a kilo of crabs for dinner. They are still alive when she cooked them. For so many years, I've been wondering why crabs have to be cooked alive. I found the answers from Chef website and this is what they said about it.
Technically we don't have to — but they have to be really, really recently deceased. Lobster and crabs decay so quickly after death that they present health risks if not cooked immediately.
Some people are not comfortable tossing what are essentially live bugs into a pot of boiling water, though, and there are debates on the most humane way to dispatch them. Some people plunge a heavy chef's knife into the back of the lobster's head, about an inch behind the eyes, to do them in before cooking. The same can be done for crabs. This method clearly kills them instantly, although they may continue to flop around for a bit — just as they do in the pot of boiling water. In our experience, it takes at least as much fortitude to kill them with a knife as to toss them in the pot.
If your question stems from humanitarian or vegetarian-inspired grounds, there is no getting around the fact that all the meat we eat was once alive and killed specifically for our consumption, whether we do the actual killing or not. And while very few of us have to slaughter a pig, cow, or chicken to feed the family these days, generations of our forebears did so. The only way to remove yourself from the actual process — though not the deed — of killing a lobster or crab is to purchase frozen lobster tails and pre-cooked crabs, or order them in a restaurant.

Dr. Moore found that while men often make the more overt maneuver in courtship - what social scientists call "the approach" - it's women who send out the initial invitation by smiling, patting their hair or licking their lips. Even though these may be unconscious gestures, flirting is the cornerstone of the population growth.
After two decades of staking out single bars, campus libraries and malls, Moore is convinced that regardless of age, race or class, women signal and keep men's attention with a finite number of movements. To give you an idea of how flirting might work, I've pieced together a few of Moore's observations. It's a mating ritual that is guaranteed to get him out of his chair and over to your table. Maybe even onto the dance floor.

Italians, Greeks and other people living in countries near the Mediterranean Sea generally live longer than people in other parts of Europe or the United States. They suffer from low rates of cancer and heart disease. Scientists found that Greeks smoke more tobacco and exercise less than Americans. Also, Greeks spend less money on health care and live longer than most Americans. Scientists believe that Mediterranean foods maybe the reason for this difference. Traditionally, people who live in the Mediterranean area eat large amounts of fruits and vegetables, beans, noodles, rice and other grains. They also eat moderate anounts of fish, chicken and milk products. They eat red meat and eggs only about four times a month. Experts say that is because olive oil contains large amounts of Vitamin E. Most Americans, however, eat milk products such as butter and margarine. These foods contains fats that can lead to heart disease and other problems. Drinking one or two glasses of wine also is a common custom in the Mediterranean. Health and Food experts say drinking moderate amounts of wine while eating may reduce the chance of heart disease.
Smiling is a great way to make yourself stand out while helping your body to function better. Smile to improve your health, your stress level, and your attractiveness. Smiling is just one fun way to live longer read about the others and try as many as you can.

Lechon kawali (Pan-Roasted Pork) is one of my favorite food dishes. I had lechon kawali accompanied by vinegar and rice at lunch time today. Woof! As they say, lechon kawali is probably the most popular–and sinful–way to cook pork in the Philippines. Pork belly boiled in water with spices and plenty of salt, drained then deep fried until crisp and golden and the rind puffed like cracklings. A wonderful dish, really! But lechon kawali is only good while newly-cooked. The fat congeals once it cools. It does not reheat well–re-fry it and the meat becomes too dry.

Last week end, I suffered a travel sickness on my way to the next town. It resulted to the feeling of nausea and I felt like I wanted to vomit. I usually sit in the first row of the bus where I can get a clear view of the road but unfortunately the seats were taken so I was seated at the 5th row of the bus. I tried not to watch TV so that I would not feel quesy. But nevertheless, the motion of the bus still made me feel sick. The following pictures below show the road going to that town.
Travel, or motion, sickness occurs when repetitive small movements mean the brain is sent mixed messages. The eyes say one thing about the position of the body, while the delicate inner ear balance mechanisms are reporting something different.
Prevention and treatment
The following can help to reduce the chance of travel sickness:
- Avoiding heavy meals and alcohol before travelling.
- Keeping still with eyes closed.
- Anti-sickness medicines from the pharmacist. These should be taken before travel according to the instructions so they have time to be absorbed by the body.
- Ginger or peppermint remedies. Ginger can be taken as a biscuit, tea or in crystallised form, while peppermint can be sucked as a sweet or taken as a tea.
- Acupressure. This can be applied using a wristband or by pressing your finger against the middle of the inner wrist about three finger widths above the crease where the wrist joins the hand.
Mend a quarrel. Search out a forgotten friend. Dismiss suspicion and replace it with trust. Write a love letter. Share some treasure. Give a soft answer. Encourage youth. Manifest your loyalty in a word or deed.
Keep a promise. Find the time. Forego a grudge. Forgive an enemy. Listen. Apologize if you were wrong. Try to understand. Flout envy. Examine your demands on others. Think first of someone else. Appreciate, be kind, be gentle. Laugh a little more.
Deserve confidence. Take up arms against malice. Decry complacency. Express your gratitude. Worship you God. Gladden the heart of a child. Take pleasure in the beauty and the wonder of the earth. Speak you love. Speak it again. Speak it still again. Speak it still once again.

Christmas has many traditions. Singing songs. Cooking foods. Giving gifts. Some special trees and plants are also part of Christmas tradition.
One of the most popular is the evergreen tree. It remains green during the cold, dark months of winter in the northern part of the world. It is a symbol of everlasting life.
Many people buy an evergreen tree for Christmas. They put it in their house and hang small lights and colorful objects on its branches. Another popular evergreen plant is mistletoe. It has small white berries and leaves that feel like leather. The traditional Christmas mistletoe is native to Europe.
Priests of the Druid religion of ancient Britain and France believed mistletoe had magical powers. Today many people hang mistletoe in a doorway at Christmas time. If you meet someone under the mistletoe, tradition gives you permission to kiss them.
Two thick, sticky substances from trees have been part of Christmas beginning. They are frankincense and myrrh. Both have powerful, pleasant smells. Tradition says three wise men carried them as gifts to the
Christ child in Bethlehem.

I got a text message from my high school batchmate, Susan. It says: In Life you will realize that the people you meet have a purpose. Some were put there to test you. Some would use you, some would teach you, and some would bring out the better if not the best in you. Some may even cause you pain and heartache but one must learn to move on. So let go of the people who cant treat you right and hold on to those who love you back and see your worth.
There are many things I am thankful for through these years. I am thankful because I have my family who are always there to support me, I have my friends who listens to me and see me for who I am, I have all the things I need to survive in my everyday life, and above all I am thankful to God for giving me all the blessings that I received. God indeed is good!
Be thankful that you don't already have everything you desire,

Men and women struggle for a happy medium between strong and sensitive, coming at it from opposite extremes. For men, "the message are mixed," says Robinson. "If you expect him to be caretaker, to be in charge, there's not always room for him to feel vulnerable, too." Trying not to be critical or defensive when he does open up - tears included - may smooth the way to less traumatic soul-to-soul contact.

When I'm at the beach, I always crave to eat inihaw na pusit (grilled squid). So last week end, my boo and I bought a kilo of squid at Php 120.00. To make it incredibly delicious, we marinated the squid in a mixture of soy sauce, kalamansi (limes), and some cracked black pepper for about few minutes.
When the fire is ready, we set the grill a bit further from the flames so that it is not too hot. Grill the squid until just cooked, usually not longer than 3-5 minutes. If you don’t cook it enough it has an unpleasant raw chewiness, if it goes too long it becomes like chewing gum. The perfect point is when it has a few grill marks, the skin is cooked through but it is still light and spongy in a way.
Finally... aaah! *rubbing belly*... Busog na!

I had a stressful week so I went to the beach to spend my week end with my boo. It was a little bit rainy when we got there but the sun came out later in the afternoon. It was so relaxing to just sit and watch the waves and feel the breeze. I felt rejuvenated and I was able to sleep all day. What a great week end!

Running alongside stress there is often his stable-mate, depression. You begin to have doubts about your capabilities, become forgetful at work, and hesistant. And you begin to feel you have missed your chances in life. Get rid of that idea.
There is much you can do in the years before you. Women, like wine, mature with age. They are often more interesting to men after 39. And the same can be said for men. Broaden your range of interests. Mixing with younger people can help. And take your stride. They are useful as a day for taking stock in your life; for thinking about what you have done and where you are going. Break new ground. Get enthusiastic for new venture if you can. It will prevent the years from catching up with you too soon.
Leading a full life certainly helps. In her 40s Helene Rubenstein built up a beauty business and at 90 wrote in her memoirs: "Work has been my beauty treatment. It keeps wrinkles out of the mind and the spirit. It helps to keep a woman young." Sophia Loren, one of the world's most beautiful women, came to her 50th birthday with a feeling of surprise. Rich and famous. she need never work again, but that is not what she has in mind at all. She wants new roles, fresh challenges. "My ambition," she says, "is to keep alive the same drive that has allowed me to achieve most of the goals of my life. At my age I still expect bigger opportunities than the ones I've had."
Work can keep us young. But work can also kill. Today more and more people in their 20s and 30s and 40s are realizing the real cost of getting to the top in this highly competitive world. "The cost of anything is the amount of what I call life, which is required to be exchanged for it immediately or in the long run, " was how Dale Carnegie once put in. Or to put it another way, we are fools to pay more for a thing in terms of what it takes out to our lives and our health than it is really worth.
Some people can get all wrapped up in a job and are convinced that their work is the most interesting thing in the world. Fair enough. It will be good for them. But others seem to be driven on without heeding the cost. For them, work is not a labor of love but a worrisome ordeal, day after day as ambition pushes them onwards towards the celestial city called " Success" without allowing them time to ponder the question: "Is it worthwhile?" they risk ulcers, mental breakdown, heart failure. Yet the goal of ambition urges them on, often to disaster.
So, at 40, we are faced with the dilemma that work can keep us young and yet that it can kill us. What are we to do?
We must pause. At 39 we have reached the halfway stage of life. The years ahead are precious. It would be a pity to waste them. There is only one thing we can do. Take a long look at all the possibilities. Strip off the blinkers and look at what we might be missing. And if we find that work is becoming a health hazard decide it is time to put a sign on the door: "GONE FISHING"
It's all a matter of choice: yours! In the years ahead whether you stay young or not will depend on what you decide. It will mean balancing work with play, activity with relaxation, exercise with rest, and stress with serenity.
This is your life: play it your way. it is no dress rehearsal. One day, when you reach a great age, the oft-repeated question might be put to you: "What would you do if you had it all to do again?" What will you say then? Will you be echoing Colette's words: "What a wonderful like I've had! I only wish I'd realized it sooner." Or maybe the ironic wit of Eubie Blake, the ragtime pianist who, on his 100th birthday said: "If I'd known I was going to live this long I'd have taken better care of myself."
