SSP Website of the Month and Community Choice Awardee (May 2009): Lupon Vocational High School
To realize this goal, LVHS offer specialization curricula in technical-vocational fields. A significant subject in the LVHS curriculum is the Internet and Computer Fundamentals where students are trained on computing and web technology.
One proof of LVHS’ efforts in integrating ICT in its curriculum is the development of their school website, the winner of the Website of the Month and Community Choice awards for the Smart Schools Program’s (SSP) Website Competition.
LVHS teachers and students worked together to develop the LVHS website which is hosted for free by SSP. The LVHS website contains news and updates about the school and other pertinent information for the school’s teachers, students, and alumni.
The SSP “Website of the Month” Competition is SSP website’s rewards and recognition program for the SSP-hosted websites. Nominated websites are evaluated based on the content, website design, involvement of teachers and students, and website maintenance.
A “Community Choice Award” is also given to the nominee with the most number of votes earned in the Smart Schools Online Poll. For May 2009, the LVHS website, which earned a total of 150 votes in the online poll conducted from May 1-29, emerged as the most favorite school website. Other nominated websites for May were: Naga City Science High School, 2 votes; Aparri School of Arts and Trades, 1; Mt. Province General Comprehensive High School, 1; and Jose B. Cardenas Memorial High School,

How to Troubleshoot Hard Drive Problems?
Check Your BIOS
Better beware of older systems with large hard drives. If you have an older motherboard, your BIOS might not recognize hard drives larger than 2.1 GB. Hopefully, your BIOS is EPROM which means although read only (noticed the ROM?) it can be edited by authorized editors. Nearly all newer motherboards support that. All you need to do is to go online, go to your motherboard manufacturer's website and try to download a flash BIOS update. Install it and it should be done.
Are You FAT Enough?
If you have a large capacity hard drive with more than 2.1 GB, you might have a problem. Windows 95 itself will only recognize a partition with not more than 2.1 GB. You need FAT32. With FAT32, you can have one large capacity hard drive without partitioning. You will also save some space with FAT32. In short, larger hard drives require FAT32.
Consider Partitioning
Although you can have one big fat hard drive as one partition, you should consider partitioning as well, if you have a big hare drive. Partitioning is the method of dividing an area on a disk into smaller portions of lesser capacities that can be recognized by the operating system. Picture this: your hard drive is a cake. It is easier to eat a cake divided into pieces than to eat it whole.
Partitioning enables you to achieve greater efficiency and functionality from high-capacity disks (2.1GB or greater). You can create partitions by using FDISK on a system running in MS-DOS mode or by using a third-party disk utility. Remember that after partitioning, all data will be loss so be careful.
You can set aside a small partition for backup purposes. In case you should decided to format, just format the partition you use to store Windows. Your data in the backup partition is still there. But be careful! If you format a FAT32 partition with a FAT16 formatting utility, your partitions with data in it will all be loss! So never install DOS after formatting Windows. Because DOS utilizes FAT16, your FAT32 partition will all be gone.
Access Time or Seek Time?
If you want to buy a hard drive but are confused with the specifications of access time and seek time, remember that the key to the speed of a hard drive is the average access time. This is the time taken to access a single sector to the time when the drive's head reaches the sector. But beware, some ads quote seek time that is not the appropriate measurement. Access time is seek time plus latency (the time it takes for the chosen sector to come around to be positioned under the read/write head)
Speed, Not Space
A lot of people are confused between speed and space. If you have a Quantum Fireball with 1.2 GB and a Quantum Bigfoot with 3.5 GB surely you should put the Bigfoot as the master and Fireball as the slave right? Wrong! You should always consider speed as well as space. The Quantum Fireball has a faster access time. A faster hard drive means better performance. Make sure your operating system is store in the faster hard drive. You can use the Bigfoot to store your programs or games which makes not much difference to the speed. With speed hungry programs or games, store them in the faster drive too. You must know what to put where.
The status of the drives is determined by setting small jumpers that are usually located next to the IDE connector on the drive itself.

Basic Climbing Tips
Here are some other useful tips from PowerUP’s Introduction to Climbing that first timers may find useful:
- Climb with your feet first. Try to move up the climb with leg power by keeping your feet high and your hands low. Climbing like this teaches you to balance on the footholds. Keep your hips over your feet and close to the wall.
- Keep your arms slightly bent. Don’t extend them very high up so as to allow your feet to support most of your body weight.
- Use your hands lightly for balance and do not claw your way up the wall. Like climbing a ladder, grip the rungs for balance, and push with your legs.
- Constantly be on the lookout for footholds instead of becoming fixated on handholds.
- Rest after every few moves. Don’t pull on the holds during your rest periods. Instead, hang from a straight arm while you lower or shake out the other, like a swimmer loosening up.

Climbing Signals
CLIMBING! – given by the climber; tells the belayer that the climber is starting to climb.
CLIMB ON! – given by the belayer; tells the climber that the belayer knows the partner is climbing. Do not climb until you hear this.
TENSION! – given by the climber; means the climber wants a very tight rope to feel secure.
SLACK! – given by the climber; requested when the rope is too tight and signals the belayer to loosen the rope system a little bit.
DOWN! – given by the belayer signaling that the climber should not cling to the wall and gently kick away while being lowered to prevent his or her knees from hitting the holds.
FALLING! – given by the climber; means the climber is actually falling or, thinks he or she is about to fall.

Is it Safe to Travel?
With the Swine Flu Outbreak, is it safe to travel?
Influenza A(H1N1) has already been confirmed in many parts of the world. The global response now focuses on minimizing the impact of the virus through the rapid identification of cases, and providing patients with appropriate medical care, rather than on stopping its spread internationally.
Although identifying signs and symptoms of influenza in travellers can help track the path of the outbreak, it will not reduce the spread of influenza, as the virus can be transmitted from person to person before the onset of symptoms.
Scientific research based on mathematical modelling shows that restricting travel would be of limited or no benefit in stopping the spread of disease. Historical records of previous influenza pandemics, as well as experience with SARS, validate this.

Free Video Conferencing for OFWs, kin
This is made possible by Abot Tanaw, a free social networking system which seeks to provide free video teleconferencing for the eight million overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) abroad and their dependents in the Philippines.
The concept of Abot Tanaw started from a conversation between Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation chief Ephraim Genuino and businessman and Abot Tanaw chief executive Kim Go, who both wanted to make the conversations between OFWs and their relatives more personal.

Use of antiviral drugs against influenza A(H1N1)
So far most people who have contracted the new A (H1N1) virus have experienced influenza-like symptoms (such as sore throat, cough, runny nose, fever, malaise, headache, joint/muscle pain) and recovered without antiviral treatment.
Antiviral drugs may reduce the symptoms and duration of illness, just as they do for seasonal influenza. They also may contribute to preventing severe disease and death. Influenza A (H1N1) is a new virus and only a small number of people with the infection have been treated for it with antiviral drugs. WHO is in touch with public health authorities and clinicians in affected countries and is gathering information about how effective the drugs are.

The Best Stick Figure Animation
A stick figure is a very simple type of drawing made of lines and dots, often of the human form or other animals. In a stick figure, the head is represented by a circle, sometimes embellished with details such as eyes, mouth or crudely-scratched-out hair. The neck, arms, legs and stomach are all represented by straight lines (thus the name). The neck and torso are different parts of one straight line.
Stick figures are typically drawn by hand with a pen, pencil, marker or whatever is at hand. Graffiti of stick figures are found throughout history, often scratched with a sharp object on hard surfaces such as stone or concrete walls.
They are iconic and sketched with minimal detail. However, if one wanted to show emotion, simple additions can provide facial expressions, such as inward-pointing "eyebrows" showing anger, or widened "eyes" for fear, but many stick figures lack noses, mouths, or have no facial features displaying absent or ambiguous emotional expression.
Stick figures have proven effective as a source of advertising, entertainment and as a form of storyboarding and practice for film work. This is especially crucial for creating animatics, as a film special effects team is then able to visually display the outcome of a scene by using stick figures, but saving the money, time and effort that a completed shot would require.

Filipino-made Animated Film: Dayo
This is a full-feature animated film that feature the story of an 11-year-old kid named Bubuy.
The story revolves around Bubuy who has to save his grandparents who were abducted and brought to the strange land called Elementalia, which is home to a host of strange creatures.
Quilao said the animated film is expected to become ready by October or November, a year after production started.
Thanks to digital technology, Quilao stressed that the production cost was a fraction of what Hollywood-based animated films would spend.
Dayo, which would roughly cost over $1 million, is the third full-feature animated movie in the country, Quilao said.
"We're not the first. Ibong Adarna and Urduja, which is set to come out in June, came out before ours," Quilao said. But he noted that Dayo is perhaps the first Filipino full-feature animated film that is an all-digital production.
From the storyboard to the editing, Dayo used digital animation technology. Traditional animation production involves artists drawing the action that would be animated on paper. Quilao said the animation of Dayo was all done digitally, with artists doing digital storyboards from the very start.
"But the drawing process is not automated. It is still drawn. Our technology, however, allows you to directly draw on screen. Thus we call it 'tra-digital' animation," he added.
The voice talents or actors behind Dayo are also Filipino. Filipino directors Peque Gallaga and Laurice Guillen are among the local voices featured in the animated film. Gallaga will be the voice behind the character Nano, while Guillen will play a diwata.
Voices of child stars Nash Aguas as Bubuy and Katrina "Hopia" Legaspi as Anna Manananggal are also featured in the animated film, along with comedian Michael V as Narsi, and actor Johnny Delgado as Anna's father.
Dayo is a production of local advertising company Cutting Edge Productions, which has been doing TV commercials among other projects.

Basic Drawing Construction
I never thought drawing realistic and cartoony would that be so difficult to do. I used to draw still figures during my younger years but I never tried drawing cartoony. I just learned that there are important elements to consider in drawing head construction and detailing. According to our instructors, the more messy our drawing is, the more we would be able to see the details of our drawing so we were not allowed to make erasures on our drawing. Below are some of the outputs I submitted during the Animation Training held at Kapitolyo National High School in Pasig City.
