PCG Issues Warning Following Tsunami Alert


In view of the tsunami alert level 2 warning issued by the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHILVOCS) due to the magnitude 6.9 earthquake that hit the Negros Province, the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) issued a warning and notice mariners to all maritime vessels passing through the vicinity of the said area and nearby provinces.
PCG commandant Vice Admiral Edmund Tan said that a notice to mariners (NOTAM) was issued by the agency especially along the coastal areas fronting the Sulu Sea and other huge body of water to take maximum precautionary measures and to take shelter as necessary following the said recent incident.

“All units in the coastal areas fronting Sulu Sea have been directed not to allow ships and other sea crafts to sail or to venture out to sea but to take shelter until the alert level is finally lifted”, Tan said.
