Single parent wins P27-M lotto

A former overseas Filipino worker and a single mother in Pampanga quit her job six years ago and turned to betting on online lotteries. As luck would have it, her family's birth dates proved lucky, winning for her P27,824,025.60 in the December 7 draw of Mega Lotto 6/45.
Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO) General Manager Jose Ferdinand M. Rojas II said the winner did not let another day pass before coming to claim her winnings.
"She was understandably very excited and truly happy for her good fortune. It is the best Christmas gift she can ever receive in her life," said Rojas, adding with a smile “unless she wins a bigger lotto jackpot in the future.”
He said one of her two bets worth P10 each matched the winning numbers - 05-08-26-32-38-41.
The winner is PCSO's first Christmas millionaire this year.
Lawyer Lauro A. Patiag, manager of the Internal Audit Department (PCSO-IAD), narrated the winner's story Thursday afternoon when she and her son came to the agency to claim their winnings.
He said it was her 27-year-old only offspring, a resident of Sta. Mesa, Manila, who broke her the good news the night the 778th draw of 6/45 was done. He watched it on government television.
"Mother, we won P27 million in the lotto draw today," her son told her through a mobile phone. She still lives in Pampanga
Son, please check again to make sure," the single mother replied, with excitement obviously building up.
"I checked it again and we really won," he told her mother.
A sleepless night followed.
"Hindi na po ako nakatulog magdamag (After that I was not able to sleep anymore because of excitement and happiness. I can't believe I won that big amount of money," she said.
Patiag said he saw in her face signs she had no sleep the night she hit the jackpot with one of her two “alaga" (favorite) lotto number combinations.
