Medicinal Uses of Ginger
I remember my mother who would always have ginger with her everytime she teaches a choral group in our community. She said it helps her a lot when she feels pain in her throat.
Ginger contains several useful chemical substances. One is chavicol, which kills fungus. Another is myrcene which killa bacteria.
Scientists in Denmark did a study that shows ginger can reduce the threat of heart attack and stroke. The study showed the ginger did a better job of reducing the body's production of thromboxane. Thromboxane is a substance that causes strokes and heart attacks.
British researches did another study. They found that ginger does work to prevent stomach sickness during surgery. The ginger root was crushed into a fine powder. It then was given to 60 women before they had operations. Doctors found the treatment was just an effective in controlling stomach sickness as a drug commonly used for this.
