James Yap keen on also 'adopting' Bimby

James Yap may now be a free man yet it doesn’t mean that he would just turn his back on his son Baby James with his now ex-wife Kris Aquino, especially since the young boy is also affected by the annulment.
Since their marriage was nullified recently based on Article 35 Paragraph 2 of the Family Code or the “lack of authority of the solemnizing officer of their marriage,” Bimby is now regarded, as the Philippine law dictates, an “illegitimate child.”

James said both his and Kris’ camps are already working to file a separate petition for adoption in order to "legitimize" Bimby.
“Sinabi ‘ko nga kay Kris ‘eh, ‘I-adopt mo si Baby James, legitimate siya sa‘yo, pagdating sa akin illegitimate. Baka naman pagdating ng panahon, ‘pag laki ni Baby James tanungin ako, ‘Bakit hindi mo ako inadopt?’ ‘Di ba? Anong isasagot ‘ko niyan?
“‘Yun ‘yung mga pag-uusapan namin ni Kris talaga na sana maintindihan niya ‘yung ganon dahil siyempre ako ‘yung tatay,” explained James in a taped interview with “State of the Nation [SONA]” aired on Feb. 9.
Recall that in a previous *Bulletin Entertainment* report, Kris intimated that Bimby will still remain a Yap; she, however, needs to adopt him in order to protect him.
“So kailangan, for me to legitimize my own children, kahit na biologically niluwal ko sila – parang lesson in law talaga itong nangyari sa ‘kin – I need to adopt them para there’s no question of inheritance later on,” she related, also referring to her oldest son Josh.
Peaceful separation
The impending issue about Bimby aside, James disclosed, meanwhile, how he learned about the Makati Regional Trial Court’s decision on their annulment case.
“Nung nalaman niya [Kris] talagang tumawag kaagad sakin. Sinabi niya, ‘Congrats, single na tayo!’” he quoted Kris as saying in the “SONA” report.
He continued, “So ang sinabi ‘ko, ‘Oh, congrats din. Happy ka?’ Sabi niya, ‘Very happy.’”
While many annulments turn out awry with the couple burning bridges permanently, James related that theirs was something that came about smoothly. In fact, he even shared that they’ve maintained their friendship for the sake of their son. As proof, James shared that Kris even advised him to consult a Feng Shui expert to ensure that he’d have an auspicious 2012.
“May konting concern nga siya sa akin ‘eh. Sabi niya malas daw ako this year so kailangan ‘ko daw pumunta sa Cebu sa Feng Shui,” said James in the "SONA" interview.
Meanwhile, in a “TV Patrol” report, James stated that they’ve mutually agreed to focus on the welfare of their son.
“…Siguro, na-realize niya, na-realize naming dalawa, na kailangan na lang namin ipakita sa anak namin na maayos tayo and magtutulungan na lang tayo. Ipa-feel natin sa kaya na nandito tayo na nagmamahal sa kanya,” he explained in the report.
James stressed that he is sincerely grateful for Kris’s generosity when it comes to his visitation rights to Bimby.
“Happy naman ako dahil any time pinagbibigyan niya ako pinagbibigyan ako ni Kris,” he said.
Recall, too, that Kris "waived" the right to ask James for paternal support since she’s earning her own money.
