Feb. 25 A School Holiday

Malacañang has declared February 25 as a school holiday to allow students to participate in the 26th anniversary celebration of the EDSA People Power Revolution of 1986.
With the country now having an “entire generation” that was born after the 1986 bloodless uprising, Malacañang said that it is important for the youth to participate and learn from the festivities of the 26th anniversary of EDSA 1.
Deputy presidential spokesperson Abigail Valte urged the youth to learn from the revolution that ousted the dictatorship of the late President Ferdinand E. Marcos and pass it on to the next generation.

It was during the historic People Power Revolution on February 22-25, 1986, when Filipinos, armed with only rosaries, prayers, and flowers, stopped tanks and faced gun-wielding government soldiers along EDSA, to win back long-denied freedom and democracy.
“Mas mabuti rin pong makilala nila at kung ano ho ‘yung diwa ng Epifanio De los Santos Avenue (EDSA) para hindi po natin siya nalilimutan at nadadala po natin sa mga sumusunod na henerasyon (They should know about what happened during EDSA so this could be passed on to the succeeding generations),” Valte said.
Executive Secretary Paquito N. Ochoa Jr. earlier directed all government officials and employees to actively participate in the festivities.
