Nonito Donaire, Jr. will marry wife Rachel on curious date

Boxing champ Nonito Donaire, Jr. must have such a strong belief in numerology that he decided to marry his wife, Rachel Marcial Donaire, again on what is believed to be a fortuitous date.

“Una na silang ikinasal sa Amerika pero sa dagdag pang grasya, itinaon pa ni Nonito at Rachel ang kanilang Catholic wedding sa Las Pinas sa suwerte umanong petsa na November 11, 2011 o 11-11-11,” Mario Dumaual reported on “TV Patrol” on Nov. 8.

Nonito and Rachel Marcial, a Fil-Am model and taekwondo champion, were married in a civil ceremony on Aug. 9, 2008 at Stewart's Cove in Carmel, California. The boxer had then said that “not a single moment when we look at each other, it stops time.”

Donaire, dubbed as “The Filipino Flash,” explains his seeming penchant for numbers.

“7-7-7 naging world champion na ako.  And noong 8-8-8 was when we get married,” he said in the interview.  “And we decided na 11-11-11. Maganda ‘yung number. It signifies great luck.”

The boxer also defies the age-old belief that it will bring bad fortune if the groom sees his bride’s wedding gown a few days before the nuptials.

“Hindi naniniwala si Nonito sa pamahiin na malas ang sukat o makita ang traje de boda ng bride. Pati si Nonito kinilatis ang Swarovski-beaded gown ni Rachel,” Dumaual reported.

“I don’t believe in superstitions,” Donaire asserted. “She can be wearing gold or diamonds or gano’n but it’s her eyes and her face that will shine most of all,” he explained.

At the wedding gown fitting, Donaire had been busy documenting the occasion, shooting the videos himself. He unabashedly declared, “Kahit sabihin nila na ander de saya ako, for me I’ll always be here as a man to protect my wife.”

“I’m lucky that he loves me so much. Words can’t express [my love for him],” Rachel said.
