Menopause Starting to Give Up its Mysteries

How come women in their 50s stop having babies? And could it be that so many older mothers nowadays is evidence that evolution is working in reverse and menopause is now coming later rather than sooner?

Research from Britain's Sheffield University published this month bolsters the theory that menopause evolved so that older women could focus on being grannies rather than having babies that would compete for finite resources with the offspring of their daughters and daughters-in-law.

The verdict is out - Samsung should pay Apple US$1.05 billion in damages for infringing Apple patents.  The jury ruled that Samsung violated a number of Apple patents in creating a number of Samsung devices.  Samsung countersued for US$422 million but the jury ruled that Apple need not pay Samsung anything.

Public Holidays For 2013 Bared

The public may now look forward to holidays for the next year after President Benigno S. Aquino III signed Proclamation No. 459 declaring public holidays for 2013.

Based on the proclamation, regular holidays are: January 1 (New Year’s Day), which falls on a Tuesday; March 28, Maundy Thursday; Good Friday, March 29; Araw ng Kagitingan, April 9, which falls on a Tuesday; Labor Day, May 1, which is a Wednesday; Independence Day, June 12 also a Wednesday; National Heroes’ Day (August 26), which is on the last Monday of August; Bonifacio Day (November 30), a Saturday; Christmas Day (Dec. 25), a Wednesday; and Rizal Day (Dec. 30), which is a Monday.
