Taiwan hiring more Filipino caregivers


The growing number of senior citizens in Taiwan has increased the demand for Filipino caregivers.
Jackson Gan, president of the Pilipino Manpower Agencies Accredited to Taiwan (PILMAT) , said they expect a demand for more Filipino caregivers due to the decline in the fertility rate and longer life expectancy in Taiwan.
“The decline in the fertility rate of 1.8 will result in a negative growth for the population and will result in more senior citizens by 2016 resulting in more overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) taking of the growing elderly population,” he said.

GSIS coverage for elected seniors


 A proposal that would require Government Security and Insurance System (GSIS) to give life insurance and premiums to senior citizens, who are elected or appointed as public servants, has been proposed in the House of Representatives.
Surigao del Sur Rep. Philip Pichay filed House Bill No. 5327 to amend Republic Act No. 8291, which he said created the GSIS but failed to recognize the services of those who heed the call of public service despite their being beyond the mandatory retirement age of 60 years old under the law's implementing rules and regulations.
