GSIS invests in infra fund

State-run Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) said yesterday that it will invest in the Philippine Investment Alliance for Infrastructure (PInAI).

Robert G. Vergara, GSIS president and general manager, said that the pension fund will be the lead investor in the P25 billion infrastructure fund and a vehicle that will enable foreign investors to participate in the country's core infrastructure projects.

Gov't Offers P4,000 Educational Loan

Members of the Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) and the Social Security System (SSS) can now borrow money from the government so they or their children can complete college or get vocational courses.

The P11.2-billion education assistance fund was among the benefits announced by President Benigno S. Aquino III during the Labor Day celebration yesterday in Malacañang.

Pension for gov't retirees pressed

Lawmakers sought Saturday a monthly pension for government retirees who have reached the age of 70, saying the government should look after the welfare of the elderly.

Bayan Muna party-list Representatives Teddy Casiño and Neri Colmenares pushed for the monthly pension for government retirees to enjoy the “fruits of their labor” under their House Bill 5658.

P2.5B allotted to settle unpaid GSIS dues of teachers

The national government has earmarked an initial P2.5 billion to settle the unpaid compulsory social security contributions of thousands of public school teachers, House Assistant Majority Leader and Cebu Rep. Eduardo Gullas said recently.

The new allocation for the overdue contributions to the Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) is contained in the Miscellaneous Personnel Benefits Fund of the proposed P1.816-trillion General Appropriations Act for 2012, according to Gullas.

GSIS coverage for elected seniors

 A proposal that would require Government Security and Insurance System (GSIS) to give life insurance and premiums to senior citizens, who are elected or appointed as public servants, has been proposed in the House of Representatives.

Surigao del Sur Rep. Philip Pichay filed House Bill No. 5327 to amend Republic Act No. 8291, which he said created the GSIS but failed to recognize the services of those who heed the call of public service despite their being beyond the mandatory retirement age of 60 years old under the law's implementing rules and regulations.

Gov't to pay teachers' debts to GSIS

Thousands of public school teachers may once avail themselves of benefits as members of the Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) after the national government allocated P2.5 billion to pay their overdue debts to the state pension fund.

House Assistant Majority Leader and Cebu Rep. Eduardo Gullas said Sunday the money will be drawn from the Miscellaneous Personnel Benefits Fund under the proposed P1.816-trillion national budget for 2012.
