Banks Directed: Keep ATMs Full

Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) Deputy Governor Nestor A. Espenilla Jr. in a memo reminded all banks to make sure that automated teller machines (ATM) will have funds to service withdrawal transactions this coming five-day Lent, and public holidays.
"As people flock to the provinces during long holidays like Lenten Season, demand for ATM service is expected to surge," said Espenilla. "Banks are therefore reminded to keep their ATM facility ready 24x7 and undertake ATM preparedness program."
The BSP also reminded banks to ensure continued service for the following: ATM cash loading, handling of customer complaints, ATM security, and other ATM-related problems such as monitoring, servicing and handling.

As of end 2011, the entire banking sector maintains 10,109 ATMs. Of this total, 6,381 are offsite machines while 3,728 are within banking facilities or onsite. The 38 big banks (universal and commercial) operate 8,805 ATMs while thrift banks and rural banks maintain 1,229 and 233 machines, respectively.
The Holy Week break starts with Maundy Thursday, April 5, April 6 Good Friday, and April 7 or Black Saturday. Both Black Saturday and Easter Sunday are non-working holidays for those who are required to work on weekends.
April 9, Monday is another public holiday as the day commemorates "Day of Valor" for Bataan Day and Corregidor Day.
There are a total of 18 approved regular and special holidays this year.
