Bb. Pilipinas kicks off 2012 pageant season

Hundreds of Filipino women trooped to the Bb. Pilipinas Charities Inc. Office Smart Araneta Coliseum in Cubao, Quezon City, hoping to become the next Ma. Venus Raj or Shamcey Supsup.
At the screening of candidates for 2012 Bb. Pilipinas beauty pageant, applicants submitted their résumé downloaded from the Bb. Pilipinas website.
Screening of candidates is on-going and organizers might announce the official candidates early next month.

Aside from Supsup, other 2011 winners were Bb. Pilipinas International Dianne Necio and Bb. Pilipinas Tourism Isabella Manjon.
The winners will represent the country in the Miss Universe, Miss International and Miss Tourism Queen International beauty pageants.
Applicants must be single, 17 to 25 years old, Filipino citizen, minimum 5’6” in height with pleasing personality, at least high school graduate and of good moral character.
Supsup, who won 3rd runner-up in the 2011 Miss Universe beauty pageant in Brazil, wished all the candidates good luck in the most prestigious local beauty pageant.
“I’m so excited for the candidates. I’m looking forward to it because this time, I’ll be the one watching. I know how it feels joining a beauty contest. I wish them all the best,” said Supsup, also a professional architect.
Asked for winning tips, Supsup said: “They have to know their personality kasi aside from being beautiful, sexy, looking good, you have to have a personality that sets you apart. So dapat you know who you are. You don’t have to pretend.”
Supsup also counts confidence as one of the winning factors. “We are looking for someone who is confident at kayang-kaya n’yang dalhin ang sarili n’ya. There’s no real definition of beauty. How you feel and what you feel will reflect.”
The beauty queen also describes 2011 as a “rollercoaster” ride. “Sobrang excitement, surprises and full of blessings. I didn’t expect this to happen. That’s why I’m very thankful for 2011.”
2012 Mr. and Miss Olive-C
Another contest – 2012 Mr. and Miss Olive-C model search – will be held at the Ynarez Sports Complex in Pasig City on January 28.
At the press launch held at the Kangaroo Jack Restaurant at the Araneta Center in Cubao, Quezon City recently, the candidates sashayed on the runway as they were introduced by John Nite, of GMA-7’s “Master Showman.”
“To say the least, I am very pleased and extremely overwhelmed by the turnout of our Olive-C Model Search Year 2. At the rate things are going, we’re hitting our main target of gathering the best and brightest students of this generation. I’d like to thank our business partners, media friends, participating schools and corporate sponsors for their support,” said Jaime Acosta, president of Psalmstre Inc., makers of New Placeta and Olive-C beauty soaps.
The winners of the teen model search will represent the Philippines in an international model search in Guatemala later this year.
Last year’s winners were Hiro Magalona, now a contract artist of GMA-7 and Muriel Orais of Cebu, who went on to win Miss Earth Water last year.
