Pacman now Bible ambassador

Sarangani representative Manny Pacquiao has accepted the offer of the Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) to be their Bible ambassador.
The pound for pound king stated in an interview with “TV Patrol” aired Feb. 1 that in accepting his new designation, he hopes to “encourage ang lahat ng mga tao na magbasa ng Bible.”
Note that Pacquiao, who is known for his fervent Catholic faith, was among few members of congress who flatly voiced out his support of CBCP’s anti-reproductive health bill campaign in the past.

Bishop Pablo Virgilio David, the presiding prelate over the CBCP bible ministry, posted on the religious organization's website on Jan. 30 that he sees Pacquiao’s influence as icon of his generation as a “big help” in promoting the reading of the Scripture among Catholics.
“Manny has always been very religious and we are happy that he is deepening his faith and his understanding of the Bible,” said David.
David added that Pacquiao could well follow in the steps of the Philippine-born National Football League star Tim Tebow, a devout Christian dubbed “God's quarterback” by the press.
"Tim Tebow became very popular by promoting the word of God," David said. "Some have referred to Manny Pacquiao as the Tim Tebow of the Philippines."
Aside from Pacquiao, David related that they are seeking the help of other personalities to help boost their campaign.
“There are other bishops who are directly in touch with some personalities, celebrities, because they have a big influence on the people,” said he.
“Some of our known comedians are very serious people, very spiritual people and we are happy that they are partnering very closely with us,” he said.
