Pauleen Luna's mom defends daughter from 'gold digger' label
Chat Luna, mother of actress-TV host Pauleen Luna, believes that her daughter is not using one “Eat Bulaga!” host and rumored boyfriend Vic Sotto for “financial gains.”
After making entertainment headlines last year due to their alleged romantic affair—which they haven’t confirmed nor denied—Pauleen is purportedly being branded as “gold digger” because he allegedly showers her with gifts.
According to a report by PEP on Jan. 8, even Vic’s son Oyo has also been dragged into the issue. His tweets, one of which read in caps, “Ang dami talagang mukang pera... ang daming lumalandi! Nakakalungkot (hindi sa akin) Haay nako....” led to speculations that he disapproves of his father’s rumored relationship with the young TV host.
In a statement sent to “Startalk TX” on Jan. 5, Thursday, and aired on Saturday, Chat said, “it pains her [Pauleen] and us [parents] as well to hear that she is using someone else for financial gains.”
Chat clarified that Pauleen is “not the breadwinner of the family” since, as parents, she and her husband “are very much able to perform this role for our brood.”
“Whatever she earns is placed in her own account, for her own disposal and has been accounted for since. Although she is not obligated in any way to share, we are very proud of her being a blessing for those in need,” Chat said.
Describing her daughter as “a very simple lady with simple wants and needs,” Chat said that Pauleen “has been smart in ensuring that her future is secured through her investments… such as the new house she is building from her savings—contrary to the speculations that it was a gift.”
More, Chat said that they are “proud to have brought up Pauleen as a God-fearing child” and that Pauleen has their “full trust and confidence” when it comes to her decisions.
“Since her start in this industry, she has but one goal—that is to enjoy what she loves the most—acting and hosting. What she earns from this profession comes secondary to her passion,” she said.
Lastly, Chat apologized to Vic “for being dragged in this issue,” adding, “We respect his show of interest with Pauleen and trust that whatever she decides on regarding this matter will be for the best of everyone.”
According to the same PEP report, Pauleen reportedly has already deactivated her Blackberry Messenger and has avoided logging onto Twitter to avoid reading the accusations against her.
