Rihanna, Coldplay capture top spots on Billboard charts

Pop singer Rihanna rises to the top of the Billboard singles chart with “We Found Love” featuring Calvin Harris.
The song gives the statuesque singer her 11th number one song. The “Umbrella” singer is the seventh artist in the Hot 100’s 53-year history to tally eleven or more chart toppers, thus, joining an elite circle that includes The Beatles (20) Mariah Carey (18) Michael Jackson (13) Madonna (12) The Supremes (12) and Whitney Houston (11). Rihanna just overtook music stars Janet Jackson and Stevie Wonder who each have had 10 number ones to their name.
“We Found Love” finally dislodges Adele’s “Someone Like You” from the top and pushes the British soul singer’s song to number two after spending a total five weeks at peak. The new Rihanna chart topper also corners this week’s Digital Songs chart top position with 243,000 downloads.
The rest of the Hot 100 charts sees the duo of DJ’s Redfoo and SkyBlu of LMFAO rising up a notch to number three with another shuffle-inducing track in “Sexy And I Know It.”  The duo pushes down Maroon 5 and their latest hit “Moves Like Jagger” featuring Christina Aguilera down to number four.
Retaining last week’s positions at the numbers five, six and seven chart listings are alt-pop / electro pop band Foster The People with “Pumped Up Kicks,” Gym Class Heroes’ “Stereo Hearts” featuring Adam Levine, and superstar club DJ David Guetta’s “Without You” featuring Usher respectively.
LMFAO’s former number one hit rebounds from the brink by moving from 10 to number eight with “Party Rock Anthem.” Cobra Starship meanwhile slips down from number eight to nine with “You Make Me Feel..” featuring Sabi.
Closing this week’s rundown of the top singles in the U.S. is a new entry from the original American Idol winner Kelly Clarkson, who debuts her new single “Mr. Know It All” at number ten.
Over at the album charts, alt-rock heroes Coldplay rushes to the top with their brand new album “Mylo Xyloto.” The new Coldplay album moves 447,000 copies to ace the number one spot on the Billboard 200 Album charts.  This is the band’s third number one album and is the third largest sales week of the year for an album, following Lady Gaga's "Born This Way" (1.1 million) and Lil Wayne's "Tha Carter IV" (964,000).   “Mylo Xyloto” is also the second biggest rock album debut since U2’s “No Line On The Horizon” did so with 484,000 albums sold upon release back in March 2009.
"Mylo Xyloto" is the band’s fifth studio release and its third straight album to reach number one following 2008's "Viva La Vida Or Death and All His Friends" and 2005's "X&Y," which sold 721,000 and 737,000 units, respectively.
