Piolo Pascual named ambassador for culture

Ambassador Piolo: You can start calling the country’s reigning leading man, Ambassador Piolo.
The National Commission for Culture and the Arts has named Piolo Pascual as its new Ambassador for Culture.
The actor, who is also a singer, film producer, and popular endorser, will work with the NCCA through his participation in major programs of the commission.
One of his early assignments is to star in an infomercial highlighting respect and love for the indigenous peoples of the Philippines. The endorsement is in line with the celebration of the National Indigenous People’s Month this October.
“Dayaw: Indigenous Peoples Festival 2011” will gather leaders and representatives of more than 100 indigenous people from across the country from October 6 to 10 at Tagum City, Davao to showcase their rituals, performing arts, cuisines, games and crafts.
Piolo isn’t the only ambassador from mainstream entertainment named by the NCCA to represent it. Dingdong Dantes and Boy Abunda similarly share ambassadorial duties for the commission.
Hence, call them “Amba” for short.
Seriously, Piolo’s acceptance of this new assignment from the country’s leading agency for culture and the arts points to his growing maturity as an artist. It is good to know that actors like Piolo Pascual and Dingdong Dantes are using their popularity and good name to promote Philippine arts, no matter if doing so entails extra work on their part, for no service fee.
