Mariel, Sharon to jump ship?
Since channel 5's reinvention in 2009, many stars from the Kapamilya and Kapuso networks have moved to what is now known as TV5. But could there be new additions to its growing roster? More importantly, could they be TV hosts Mariel Rodriguez and Sharon Cuneta?
Mariel feelers
Since last week, the wife of action star Robin Padilla has been hinted at in blind items to be one of the Kapamilya network's talent whose transfer to TV5 was already in motion.
The speculation was further bolstered by the engagement of Willie Revillame’s co-host, Shalani Soledad’s to Pasig City Representative Roman Romulo, a story that broke last week. This is said to be a probable reason for her to take leave from the show. As such, Mariel was rumored to be her replacement as Willie's co-host on “Wil Time Bigtime.”
According to Journal’s Sept.19 report, “at present, negotiations are underway for the transfer of Mariel to TV5.”
Meanwhile, PEP’s Monday report noted that Mariel had a closed-door meeting with ABS-CBN honchos where she reportedly resigned effective Sept. 16.
As one of Mariel’s close friends and co-hosts in the noon time show “Happy Yipee Yehey (HYY),” singer-actress Toni Gonzaga was asked about her friend’s rumored transfer and resignation.
“I don't think I'm in the position to answer any of those questions. Kasi, artista din lamang ako. At kaibigan lang naman ako. Hindi naman ako lawyer. Hindi naman ako spokesperson.
"So, hayaan na lang natin silang mag-confirm ng mga ganyang bagay," said she.
She, however, confirmed that Mariel is no longer with "HYY" beginning last Sept. 17.
Still refusing to directly comment on the issue, the “Wedding Tayo, Wedding Hindi’ star said, "Siyempre, irespeto natin kung ano ang desisyon niya sa ngayon. Hindi natin alam ang mga desisyon niya.
"At kahit na alam ko rin naman, hindi naman siguro maganda na sa akin manggaling 'yon dahil masyadong personal 'yong paglipat na mangyayari.
"So, if ever man na matuloy o kung hindi, I think ang dapat na sumagot niyan ay si Mariel. Sa ngayon kasi, wala pa akong alam na concrete na desisyon.
"So, hindi ko alam kung ano ang mararamdaman namin. Naghihintay din lang kami," she explained.
As to the rumored farewell party organized by “HYY” family for Mariel on Sept. 16, Toni clarified, "No'ng Friday [Sept. 16], wala ako. Nagkasakit kasi ako. So, narinig ko lang 'yan. And mahirap siguro na magsalita ako kasi hindi ko naman alam kung ano ang nangyari doon, e.
“Kung siguro nando'n ako, puwede akong makapagbigay ng detalye," she maintained.
An offer too hard to resist
Meanwhile, another Kapamilya star who is rumored to be planning to jump ship to the Kapatid network is the “Pinoy Biggest Loser” host Sharon Cuneta, according to Journal online.
As said in the report, the reality show didn’t rate as high as expected and “TV5 is said to have prepared an active package for her that would be too hard to resist.”
Should the Megastar decide to transfer, she’d be joining other highly-acclaimed celebs who have moved before her, namely Lorna Tolentino, Dolphy, Aga Muhlach, Edu Manzano and Nora Aunor.
As of this writing, Mariel and Sharon as well as TV5 and ABS-CBN have not issued any statement on the matter.
