Mexican boxer Juan Manuel Marquez says yes to third match vs. Manny Pacquiao
Mexican boxer Juan Manuel Marquez has signed an offer from Top Rank Promotions for a third bout against Filipino boxing champ Manny Pacquiao, reports GMA News Online.
Top Rank Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Bob Arum said yesterday that Marquez agreed to a fight at a catch weight of 144 pounds, with a guaranteed purse of $5 million for the Mexican boxer. Arum added that Golden Boy, Marquez' promoter with which he hasn't renewed a contract, needs to match Top Rank's offer by next week or the match might take place on November 12 in Las Vegas.
GMA News Online quoted Marquez: "Let's see what they (Golden Boy) offer. They must match the offer and also the weight." According to the Los Angeles Times, Golden Boy CEO Richard Schaefer said he plans to match the deal, which means they could have Marquez fight another opponent like welterweight world champion Victor Ortiz.
