'Gangnam Style' Achieves 500 Million Views, Dubbed As 'The Future'


Korean rapper Psy has set another milestone when "Gangnam Style" achieved 500 million views on YouTube.
With this, "Gangnam Style" has become the third most viewed video on the website's history.
As of today, the viral song, which was uploaded last July 15, has accumulated 522 million views.

Hot On YouTube: Sing It, Baby!


Some random fellow that came across a random girl in a mall randomly busting out her singing chops at a storefront in SM Megamall. Felled by her powerful voice as she sang “And I’m Telling You,” the man—who goes by user name youngjay0918 (Yuan Juan)—decided to shoot her video and post it on YouTube with props to the young singer.

Study: Youtube Source For News, Disaster Footage


A new study has found that YouTube is emerging as a major platform for news, one to which viewers increasingly turn for eyewitness videos in times of major events and natural disasters.
The Pew Research Center's Project for Excellence in Journalism on Monday released its examination of 15 months of the most popular news videos on the Google Inc.-owned site. It found that while viewership for TV news still easily outpaces those consuming news on YouTube, the video-sharing site is a growing digital environment where professional journalism mingles with citizen content.

YouTube Rolls Out Browser-Based Video-Editing Options

YouTube has rolled out browser-based video-editing options to help users make changes to their videos after uploading them.

The options include: rotating the videos, cutting footages, stabilizing shakiness, and simple retouching features, such as adjusting the saturation and brightness, and changing the colors to make the video black and white or vintage-looking.

Teachers fight back against being 'YouTubed'

In one video a student rails against his teacher, explaining how much he "hates her" due to her "boring lessons."

In another the message is more ominous, with the teenage student venting about his 11th grade science teacher and saying "I don't even care if she sees this."

He added, "I despise this lady. I never knew I could hate anybody this much," before brandishing a knife and making stabbing motions towards the camera.

YouTube creative commons videos sharing

YouTube is home to some of the more creative individuals online -- people who create content, often splicing and dicing numerous videos together to create mesmerizing mashups. Now YouTube wants to help these people find videos online that are intended to be borrowed and re-edited without fear of violating copyrights.
 
The company has created a section of its free online video editor that would host Creative Commons licensed videos; this means anyone can reuse a video tagged Creative Commons, as long as they give credit to its original creators.
