PAGASA: Metro Manila on Red Alert Status

As of 9 p.m. Monday, PAGASA has upped the rainfall alert level from green to Red due to "heavy to intense" rains.

“An accumulated rainfall of 83.5mm was recorded over Quezon City and 63.5mm over Marikina for the past 3hrs,” the state weather bureau said via their official Twitter account.

Heat Wave, Not Likely

Temperatures may be soaring, but the weather agency has doused speculations that the country is in the grip of a heat wave.

Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) senior weather forecaster Jori Loiz said the sweltering heat is normal at this time of the year.

'Super heavy rains' in Mindanao feared

Mindanao has yet to recover from the destruction left by tropical storm “Sendong” and now comes another potential cyclone, which threatens to bring “super heavy rains” once it moves closer to the landmass in the region.

Weather forecaster Jori Loiz said the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) is now closely monitoring the potential cyclone east of Mindanao. He said the low-pressure area (LPA) was estimated 860 kilometers east of General Santos City as of 8 a.m. Monday.

It's a rainy New Year in the Philippines

Most parts of the country will experience rains on Saturday, the eve of New Year, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said on Thursday.

PAGASA Administrator Dr. Nathaniel Servando said most parts of the country will experience strong and cold wind from the northeast monsoon (hanging amihan), tail-end of a cold front, and wind convergence in the next five days.

PAGASA forecasts rainy Christmas Eve

New cyclone to enter the PAR

A new tropical cyclone located east of the country is expected to enter the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR) Thursday, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said on Wednesday.

PAGASA assistant weather branch chief Rene Paciente said that the tropical depression was located 1,480 kilometers east of Southern Mindanao Wednesday morning.

Water released from 4 dams—Pagasa

Water was released Tuesday from four dams in Luzon as continuous rains spawned by Typhoon “Pedring” brought their levels to spilling level if they haven’t spilled over yet.

As of 10 a.m., the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical Atmospheric Services Administration (Pagasa) said that two gates were opened at one meter each from the Ipo and Ambuklao dams while Binga dam opened three and Magat dam one, with openings of two meters each.
