Lito Lapid's ‘Picha Pie’ Comment Trends On Twitter


Perhaps as much-awaited as the verdict for the now ex-Chief Justice Renato Corona’s impeachment trial itself was Sen. Lito Lapid’s personal judgment, if things are to be based from Tuesday’s worldwide and local Twitter trending topics.
On Tuesday afternoon, May 29, the 23 senator-judges voted 20-3 in favor of convicting Corona, finally ending the proceedings which lasted for 43 days. Lapid was among the lawmakers who deemed the former chief justice guilty of betrayal of public trust by failing to declare all his properties and bank accounts in his Statements of Assets, Liabilities and Net worth (SALN).

It’s time for Phillip Phillips and Jessica Sanchez to move over, at least for now.
After the American Idol Season 11 finale last week, Filipinos were again hooked on social networking Web sites and online forums Tuesday, this time busy placing their bets on the verdict of the Senate Impeachment Court on Chief Justice Renato Corona.

History Shows 7 Failed Impeachment Attempts


Prior to the Senate impeachment court’s conviction of Chief Justice Renato C. Corona on Tuesday for betrayal of public trust and culpable violation of the Philippine Constitution by a vote of 20-3, there have been seven unsuccessful impeachment attempts in Philippine history.
The political leaders who were subjected to such attempts were former presidents Elpidio Quirino, Diosdado Macapagal, Ferdinand Marcos, Corazon Aquino, Joseph Estrada, and Gloria Macapagal Arroyo; former Chief Justice Hilario Davide, and  former Ombudsman Merceditas Gutierrez.

'Coronavela' unfolds


The Senate resumes its regular session for the first time this year and keeps its date with history as it convenes into an impeachment court for the trial of the Chief Justice before live cameras transmitting the drama to over 90 million Filipinos here and abroad.
Chief Justice Renato C. Corona, put on trial by the House of Representatives on eight articles of impeachment, is not expected to appear when the impeachment proceedings begin Monday at the Senate at 2 p.m. Instead, Corona’s battery of top lawyers will go head-on with the House’s 11-man prosecution panel aided by 59 private prosecutors.

If she were a man, Kris Aquino would prefer to date feisty lawyer and senator, Miriam Defensor-Santiago.
In a guest appearance with her “Segunda Mano” leading man Dingdong Dantes in the first-ever live episode of “Gandang Gabi Vice,” Jan. 8, host Vice Ganda read a netizen’s question for Kris, which went, “In her opinion, if she were a man, who will she want to date—Sen. Miriam, PGMA (former president Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo), or Imelda Marcos?”
