Beckham bonds with abused Filipino kids

Away from fans’ prying eyes, David Beckham took time out from football to share his experiences and listen to Filipino children struggling to rebuild their broken lives.

“It’s so important to have a dream,” Beckham told the former street children Friday at a UNICEFsupported shelter in a suburb of Manila, where he and his teammates from the Los Angeles Galaxy are playing a friendly against the country’s national team this weekend.

Phil Younghusband believes game with L.A. Galaxy will put Azkals on the map

More than being keyed up to play against his idol, David Beckham, the Philippine Azkals' Phil Younghusband believes the upcoming game will boost his team's exposure.

"It's good exposure for the Azkals, not only locally but internationally and it'll be a good experience for the team," explained the Fil-Brit striker on PEP’s Nov. 28 report.

He added, "I think last year we would never have been able to get this type of game in the Philippines.”

Phil unabashedly admits that he is a hardcore fan of the L.A. Galaxy superstar.

Azkals to face LA Galaxy in December

Top striker David Beckham and his team LA Galaxy will be facing off with the Philippine Azkals in an exhibition match this December.

This was finally confirmed, after weeks of speculation, during a press conference held Oct. 27. The game is scheduled on Dec. 3, 7:30 p.m. at the Rizal Memorial Stadium.

According to a report on azkals.com, Beckham and his team will arrive in Manila on Dec. 1 and will be holding a sports clinic for the kids of Bantay Bata the following day, also at the Stadium.
