'Praybeyt Benjamin' earns P327M

Vice Ganda vows to stay “good” saying he owes it to God that his film “Praybeyt Benjamin” earned P327 million in ticket sales, making it the highest-grossing Filipino movie of all time.

“Dapat lang na mabait ako at pinagpala ako, ang daming blessing,” said he in a recent report on abscbnnews.com.

Vice Ganda is still seemingly in disbelief over the film’s success.

“Hindi ko inaakala. Alam kong magiging successful pero ‘di ko inakalang aabot ng ganito kalaki,” he said.

The popular gay comedian was among those present at the thanksgiving party organized Wednesday by Star Cinema and VIVA Films.

In the same report, Vice Ganda expressed his gratitude to both companies for believing in him. The “Showtime” co-host likewise thanked the film’s crew.

“Sa lahat [ng crew], totoong damang-dama ko ang  pagmamahal niyo sa akin kaya pinili kong ‘di magpakabigat sa inyo, bigayan lang ‘yan,” he said.

Plans for a "Praybeyt Benjamin" sequel is already afoot, this, as confirmed by the film’s director, Wenn Deramas.

"'Yung part two [ng 'Praybeyt Benjamin'] nasa 2013 'yon,” said he in a separate ABS CBN News interview.

Deramas explained that it may take a long time to finish as they have to shoot some scenes abroad.

“Kasi madugo ang part two. Kailangang pangatawanan namin 'yung bansa sa Europe. Alam namin na kapag sa ibang  bansa kinuhanan madugo, pero ibigay natin sa tao ang nararapat," he  said.

Asked if the success of "No Other Woman" helped "Praybeyt Benjamin," Deramas said, "Of course. Imagine niyo ang lahat ng nakapanood ng 'No Other Woman' nakapanood ng trailer ng 'Praybeyt Benjamin.' So momentum 'yan eh."

Prior to “Praybeyt Benjamin," “No Other Woman," starring Cristine Reyes, Anne Curtis and Derek Ramsay, held the box-office crown with  almost P276 million in earnings.

It is no coincidence that Vice Ganda's success has already extended to cyberspace. He has joined Curtis among other ABS CBN stars who have garnered more than a million followers on Twitter.

According to a separate ABS CBN report Vice Ganda currently has1,069,112 followers.

Curtis was named as the first Filipino celebrity who has garnered 1million followers on Twitter last April. To date, she has 1,895,683  followers.

Other ABS CBN stars who have garnered a million followers on Twitter are Angel Locsin and Kris Aquino.
