PBA player Ali Peek shot in the neck
Ali Peek, who plays center for the Talk N Text club in the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA), was shot in the neck by a lone gunman last night at the parking lot of the RFM Gym in Pioneer St. Mandaluyong City.
Peek, 36, one of the approachable players in the pro league despite his huge 6-foot-4 frame, was brought to The Medical City in Pasig City.
Talk ’N Text team manager Aboy Castro said the Fil-American was “conscious and in stable condition.”
Peek was walking to his car after the training session with John Aquino. The gunman, according to reports, fired one shot from behind.
“Ali didn’t even fall after he was shot. He was able to call us (coaches) through his cell phone. Good thing, his personal trainer was there and saw him,” said the source. “What happened was really, really shocking since Ali is a very nice guy.”
“He’ll be operated (to remove the bullet). Good thing it missed a major artery,” he added.
The source also said that they don’t know somebody who has a personal grudge against the Fil-American.
Peek entered the PBA in 1998 as the No. 3 overall pick in the PBA Rookie Draft. He played college ball at St. Mary’s College in California.
Peek helped Talk ’N Text to two championships last season.
