Joey de Leon's appearance on talk show trends on Twitter
Veteran actor and comedian Joey de Leon trended on Twitter while he was on ABS-CBN talk show "The Buzz" last Nov. 27.
De Leon, who ranked fifth on the list Sunday afternoon, was on the show to promote “Won’t Last A Day Without You,” a film where he plays the father of actress Sarah Geronimo. Informed of the matter, de Leon simply shrugged it off saying, “dahil sa inyo ‘yun,” alluding to show host, Toni Gonzaga.
Several Twitter users were thrilled to see the reunion of sorts between Gonzaga and de Leon. Gonzaga started her career under the latter’s wings as a co-host in the long-running noontime show, "Eat Bulaga," on GMA-7. She jumped ship to ABS-CBN soon after.
Brewbles Bubbles Magpayo on the other hand tweeted, “Nakakatuwa naman ang interview ni Toni Gonzaga kay Joey de Leon sa The Buzz. Para silang magtiyuhin na nag-aasaran hahaha!”
Meanwhile, kulturangewan Dustin Carbonera shared, “Good to see Joey de Leon in ABS. This should be a trend. No more kapamilya ang kapuso or kapatid. Gusto nio unity eh division yan.”
In the interview, De Leon admitted to "missing" Gonzaga. He went on to deny that he was mad at her when she decided to leave “Eat Bulaga” and GMA 7 altogether.
Gonzaga turned emotional when de Leon gave her a bag containing an "Eat Bulaga" coffee table book, which has an old photo of her when she was with the show.
"‘Di lang tayo nagkaintindihan. Hindi ako nagagalit sa'yo noon. Binibiro lang kita noon," said de Leon to a sobbing Gonzaga.
"O tignan mo naman, nung umalis ka umasenso ka," he added in jest. "Kung ‘di ka lumayas sa 'Bulaga' edi baka EB Babes [an all-girl dance group] ka na."
On her part, Gonzaga, who is currently a host of "Happy Yipee Yehey," thanked de Leon for helping jump start her showbiz career.
“Hindi ko matutunan lahat ng natutunan ko kung hindi ko nakita yun first hand sa inyo,” she said.
"Mabibilang ko ang sarili ko sa isa sa mga pinakamaswerte sa henerasyon na ito na nakatrabaho ang isang Joey de Leon," she added.
In the same interview, de Leon revealed that he also once worked in ABS-CBN more than 40 years ago.
“Utility announcer ang tawag nila dun [his position]. Inabutan ko pa ‘yung lolo ni boss Gabby [Lopez, current Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of ABS-CBN].”
De Leon said he was with ABS-CBN for more than five years.
"Ako lang ang nakaupo sa seven stations ng ABS-CBN sa Bohol,” said he. “Hindi dahil ako ay magaling kundi dito ako natutulog. Ginawa kong bahay ito [ABS CBN studios]. And that's partly true.”
