Loveless Venus Raj eyes record deal

Miss Universe Philippines 2010 Maria Venus Raj confesses she is still loveless but says she is hopeful that the right guy will come along.
After Raj charmed the audience in the world’s most prestigious pageant, many believe that the popular beauty queen would be pursued by the country’s most eligible bachelors. However, she admits that she has not had a new relationship following her stint at the Miss Universe pageant in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Asked if she is choosy, Raj said: “Hindi naman ako choosy. Wala lang talaga akong boyfriend sa ngayon.” (I’m not choosy. It’s just that I don’t really have a boyfriend these days).
The Bicolana beauty queen, however, revealed the qualities of an ideal boyfriend. “No. 1 sa akin dapat ‘yung guy is God-fearing. Yun ang quality na hinahanap ko sa isang boyfriend. And No. 2, dapat may sense of humor ‘yung guy. Hindi naman pwedeng buong araw lang kami nagtitinginan. Gusto ko yung mahilig magpatawa lalo na pagkatapos ng work, s’yempre gusto mo is mag-relax at magtawanan kayo sa bonding moment.”
Apart from her current stint in the top-rating ABS-CBN morning show “Umagang kay Ganda,” Raj says she hopes to break into the recording scene soon.
“Mahilig talaga akong kumanta. Sana magkaroon din ako ng CD in the future,” says Raj, at the send-off party for Dianne Necio who will represent the country in the 2011 Miss International pageant in Chendung, China on Nov. 6, 2011. The party was held at the Gateway Suites, Araneta Center in Cubao, Quezon City recently.
After she competed in the Miss Universe pageant, Raj performed and sang on TV shows and concerts. Given a break, Raj says that she wants to do R&B and pop songs. “Gusto ko rin maka-duet si Piolo Pascual!”
Raj says she is not in a hurry to find a boyfriend or record a CD.
She’s excited having been chosen as ambassador for poor children, under the program of the Department of Social Welfare and Development.
Raj has been tapped to promote the rights of children nationwide, particularly in health care and education.
The beauty queen says that she can relate to the situation of poor children because she came from a poor family in Camarines Sur before she became a beauty queen. Raj and her family lived in a nipa hut without electricity for several years.
Raj also recalls those days when she and Necio were housemates for almost one year after they won the 2010 Bb Pilipinas pageant. Necio was first runner-up while Raj won Bb. Pilipinas-Universe. Since both of them are Bicolanas, they decided to rent a unit where they lived for one year.
Another beauty queen 2010 Bb. Pilipinas-World Czarina Gatbonton also joined them.
“Napakabait na bata. Wala akong masabi sa kanya dahil masunurin siya. Palagay ko ang strength n’ya ay yung confidence n’ya sa sarili. Yun ang magdadala sa kanya,” Raj recalls of Necio.
Raj and Necio are veterans of beauty pageants in the Bicol region before they competed in Bb. Pilipinas beauty contest.
When Raj was briefly dethroned due to citizenship issue, Necio almost replaced her to represent the country in the 2010 Miss Universe pageant. But Necio did not make it to the Miss Universe pageant due to age requirements. Raj then settled the issue and finally represented the country.
