Kris Aquino expresses support for RH Bill
TV host and actress Kris Aquino revealed on her morning show Kris TV last week that she is a proponent of the controversial Reproductive Health Bill. In a sit-down interview with the press after the show, Aquino explained her reasons for supporting the bill and admonished anti-RH bill advocates who are calling for her brother President Noynoy Aquino’s resignation.
Aquino, who is also a judge for the talent show Pilipinas Got Talent, cited an example from one of the show’s participants. Happy Feet, a tap-dancing pair, belongs to a family of nine kids. Both their parents are unemployed and not one of them has graduated from college. The family is surviving from the financial aid of one sibling who works as a domestic helper in Hong Kong.
Aquino attributes the family’s poverty to the lack of information. “Reality ‘yan eh. And that’s because hindi mo binigyan ng adequate knowledge at choice yung couple kung anong gusto nilang gawin (That’s the reality, and it’s because they weren’t given adequate knowledge or a choice about what they want to do).” She also said her family was raised to be pro-life. “But all of us, my sisters, all have two kids each,” she added, saying “It’s your choice eh, whether natural birth control or if it’s pills, condom or whatever artificial means.”
According to Aquino, unless the anti-RH supporters figure out a better solution to poverty, then they should stop debating about the bill. She also reproached members of the Catholic Church and other anti-RH enthusiasts who are pushing for her brother’s resignation. “That’s one thing na I feel bago ka humingi ng resignation, sana yung Church na ‘yan may feeding program. Sana yung Church na ‘yan may scholarship program, di ba (Before they ask for his resignation, shouldn't the Church have a feeding program or scholarship program first)?
