Twitter May Introduce Ads in Users’ Timelines: FT
In a move that will no doubt spark an uproar among its users, there may soon be advertisements between friends’ tweets in your Twitter timeline, reports the Financial Times, citing people with direct knowledge of the plans.
Twitter may position its “Promoted Tweets” in the timeline, marking the first time in the micro-blogging site’s five-year history of placing obtrusive ads.

In addition, tweets from a brand users follow will appear high up in their stream, even though they may not be the most recent, reports the FT.
The decision for these ads comes as Twitter looks to new ways to generate revenues, which has so far been paltry compared to Facebook’s, the FT said. It is expected to make US$100 million this year, compared to Facebook’s US$3.5 billion from display advertising alone.
