Who is Censoring the Internet?

Design student Yuxi You has set up a website featuring infographics that detail the state of internet censorship worldwide.

Using data from Reporters Without Borders and the OpenNet Initiative, You designed a ‘heat-map’ of the globe (above) charting the countries with the most online freedom (large parts of Africa, for instance) to those with “pervasive censorship” like China.

You found some of the most commonly censored content are pornography, social networks and political blogs, which in light of the recent Egyptian uprising makes sense for governments looking to protect their regimes.
