Website Resources for Video Downloads

Everyone these days download movies, share videos, and link music in their social networking accounts. Be it watching a music video on an iPod while on board a plane, or inserting videos into a PowerPoint presentation to add some pizzazz, it is important to know how to download, convert, and play videos.

There are basically two ways to download videos off the Internet: either via a web application or a desktop application.

Here are some free web services for downloading videos:
  • ClipNabber – allows the user to download videos from YouTube and other video-sharing sites by simply copying and pasting the URL. It will produce a link which can download the file into a computer, iPod, iPhone or any other media player. YouTube videos need an FLV player in order to be played, but this is still a quick and easy-to-use site.

Visit ClipNabber.com and paste the URL of the video to be downloaded. Click the Nab button. Within a few seconds, the download video section will appear, and users can choose if they want to download the video in FLV, MP4 or mobile formats.
  • Zamzar – a free online file conversion web application that can not only convert videos off the Internet to AVI, MPEG, 3GP, MP4, MOV, etc, but also between audio, image, and document formats. Simply paste the URL into the Step 1 box then convert the file to your favorite format.

Visit the site and click on the “Download Videos” tab. Paste the URL of the video to be downloaded and choose the file format used to save the converted video. Afterwards, enter a valid email address since this is where the link to the video download will be sent. Then, click “Convert”.
  •
  • Vixy.net – similar to Zamzar which not only downloads online videos but also converts them into AVI, MOV, MP4, 3GP, or MP3.
  •
  • VideoDownloader – allows users to download a free FLV player to play videos. It is a useful FireFox add-on that supports more than 60 video-sharing sites. It can also download other objects on a web page such as movies, MP3s, flash files, and Quicktime movies directly.
  •
  • Media Converter – requires users to create an account and log in. It supports downloading and conversion of YouTube videos.
  •
  • KeepVid – allows users to quickly download the most watched videos around the web through its “Top Videos” section.
  •
  • YoutubeX – allows users to download videos from YouTube, play videos on the site, and find popular videos quickly.
  •
  • Hey! Watch – an online video encoding web service that encodes video into different formats including HD very quickly. The graphical interface is very nice and there are lots of features and options, such as the ability to transfer any video from the web directly to an FTP server or to online storage.
Meanwhile, here are some ways to download videos for the desktop:
  • Orbit Downloader – a great application for downloading any type of social media off the Internet, from videos and music from MySpace, YouTube, Pandora, among others. It has an easily navigable interface also.
  • Ares Tube – a small and easy to use video download application. Users can download videos in batches by entering URLs into a queue.
