Coffee and Osteoporosis
Drinking coffee with caffeine may cause problem for women when they grow old. However, drinking milk may prevent the problems. The researchers said drinking as littel as two cups of coffee a day can result in a woman's bones becoming thinner as she gets older. That is because caffeine removes calcium from the body. This speeds the weakening of the bones. Greater amounts of coffee leads to a greater loss of calcium.
This means women may have greater than normal chances of suffering broken bones in old age if they drink coffee. The researchers say the effects of coffee on the bones can be changed only by taking calcium throughout life. The researchers warn that one glass of milk may not protect against developing osteoporosis. They say more milk may be needed if a woman drinks large amounts of coffee.
