DLSU Bags Women’s Crown, FEU Men's Volley Title In UAAP

De La Salle University produced its sharpest performance Wednesday and got a well-deserved reward – another championship.
Flaunting their firepower and energy every coach around wants to have, the Lady Archers torpedoed the Ateneo Lady Eagles, 25-16, 25-22, 25-13, to retain their UAAP volleyball crown before their huge supporters at The Arena in San Juan.
Winning the title at the expense of its known fiercest rival, La Salle considered its title win as the sweetest of its seven championships.

In front of about 5,700 screaming fans, the Lady Archers played like the team that won all 14 elimination round games as they forced the Lady Eagles numerous errors with their thunderous spikes.
Aside from repeating as rulers of the women's tiara, the Taft-based volleybelles won their third championship in four seasons while bagging their seventh overall, all under coach Ramil de Jesus.
"Lahat ng mga panalo namin this year, mahirap," said de Jesus. "Pinaghirapan namin i-prepare kung anu man yung lumabas sa game na 'to."
It was a fitting end to the career of team captain and Finals Most Valuable Player Cha Cruz.
The gorgeous spiker battled tears after posting 12 points to lead La Salle's masterful win over the Ateneo lasses, who end up as bridesmaids after making the finals for the first-time ever.
Cruz was aided by the likes of Michelle Gumabao, who had 11 points, MVP Abigail Marano, Victonara Galang, Mikaela Esperanza and Rookie of the Year Mika Reyes.
It was a near-perfect performance for La Salle, but for Ateneo it was the opposite.
The Lady Eagles made 24 errors, particularly net violations, while their receiving and backline defense fell apart against successive La Salle spikes.
On the same day La Salle ruled the women's division, Far Eastern University ended the four-year reign of University of Santo Tomas with a thrilling 25-27, 25-15, 19-25, 25-21, 15-13 victory for the men's title.
Finals MVP Rodolfo Labrador fired 22 points as the Tamaraws won their 25th overall and the first since 2007 by sweeping the best-of-three series.
It was a sweet triumph for FEU, which lost to UST three times in the last four finals series.
Meantime, National University and Ateneo dispute the UAAP baseball crown today in the deciding game of their best-of-three championship series at the Rizal Memorial Ballpark.
Game Thursday (Rizal Memorial Ballpark)
