OWWA eyes Guinness record
The Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA), in cooperation with Globe Telecom, is aiming to break the Guinness world record for the holding of the largest gift-giving activity during the four-country OWWA Family Day “kris kringle” on December 18.
Dimzon said the OWWA Family Day will be held simultaneously in four countries – the Philippines, Taiwan, Singapore, and Hong Kong – in an attempt to break the Guinness record for holding the largest gift-giving activity around the world, currently held by the United Kingdom.
She said that aside from the attempt to gain new Guinness record for holding largest gift-giving activity, the OWWA’s annual Family Day project is a way to gather all OFWs and their family members for a fun-filled day.
The OWWA chief said that the kris kringle activity is also a way to thank and pay tribute to the heroic contributions of our OFWs to our country.
“The project was made because many of them have been away from their families for several years so thought of a simple, yet meaningful way to bond, stay connected to loved ones in the Philippines and celebrate Christmas even from thousands of miles away,” said Rizza Maniego Eala, group head for International Business of Globe Telecom.
Dimzon, who agreed with Eala in giving happiness to OFWs and their family members, planned the largest simultaneous giving activity in four countries to break United Kingdom’s record in holding “kris kringle” with 1,562 participants.
She said that based on OWWA’s record, a total of more than 3,500 have registered for the event.
The OWWA chief said that Manila’s participants alone can equal the current record. With the four-country participation, Dimzon is confident to break the United Kingdom record.
