The Search For The Next Chief Justice
The most historic and high profile job search ever to air on Philippine television – public interviews for the next Chief Justice -- come to you live over GMA News TV from July 24 to 27.
In a historic move following the impeachment of Renato Corona, the Judicial and Bar Council of the Philippines (JBC) will be conducting public interviews for the position of Chief Justice of the Supreme Court.
For the first time in history, the Filipino public will be able to monitor the actual screening process for the next head of the Philippine Judiciary – and listen to the candidates answer questions about their qualifications and job history.
Individuals seeking to serve on the Supreme Court must be natural born citizens, at least 40 years old, having served 15 years in the practice of law and with proven competence, integrity, probity and independence.
Twenty two candidates are scheduled for interview. The five most senior Justices of the Supreme Court led by Associate Justice Antonio Carpio are on the list, which includes Justice Secretary Leila de Lima, former UP College of Law Dean Raul Pangalangan, former Ateneo Law School Dean Cesar Villanueva, prominent lawyer Katrina Legarda and chairman of the Free Legal Assistance Groups (FLAG) Jose Manuel Diokno among many others.
The interviews are scheduled in the mornings, from 9 am to 12 noon, as well as afternoons, from 2 to 5 pm, Tuesday, July 24, to Friday, July 27.
GMA News TV Channel 11 will adjust its regular programming in order to air all the candidates’ interviews live in this unprecedented coverage titled "Ang Susunod Na Chief Justice."
