'TV Patrol' vies for Emmys

ABS-CBN primetime newscast “TV Patrol” gains its first ever nomination in the 2011 International Emmy Awards.
The 24-year-old news program’s coverage of the “Manila Hostage Crisis” on Aug. 23, 2010 has been included under the news nominees, and will be pitted against Brazil's “Jornal Nacional: ‘War on Drugs,’" Iceland's “RUV News: ‘Volcano Eruption at Eyjafjallajokull’” and the United Kingdom's “SkyNews Live at Five: ‘Inside the Taliban.’"
The tilt’s winners will be announced on Sept. 28 during the awarding ceremony at the Frederick P. Rose Hall of Jazz at Lincoln Center in New York.
In a ceremony held at the Harry Cipriani restaurant in Manhattan recently, ABS-CBN Senior Vice President for News and Current Affairs Ging Reyes accepted the medal and certificate of nomination.
“We are very glad that our efforts were recognized by the academy. Nagpapasalamat po kami sa lahat ng mga hurado na nakapili sa ‘TV Patrol’ bilang finalist at ito ay dahil sa kagalingan, kasipagan at dedikasyon ng mga nagtatrabaho sa likod ng ‘TV Patrol,’” she said in the news program’s episode aired on Tuesday.
The nomination for “TV Patrol” in the prestigious award-giving body is the second for the ABS-CBN News and Current Affairs. In 2007, late news broadcast “Bandila” was nominated for its coverage of the Subic rape case trial.
More, Reyes noted that the said nomination does not only give honor to the network but to the entire country as well.
“Karangalan natin na makasabay, makasama ang iba't ibang news organization mula sa iba't-ibang bahagi ng mundo at maging ang mga pangunahing news organization at networks dito sa America tulad ng CNN, NBC, CBS at ABC News,” Reyes said.
Emmy Awards presenter Bruce Pasner commended the progressive change in the news production of various networks all over the globe.
“What we’ve seen is enormous growth, excellent TV production in countries outside the United States including of course the Philippines. And it was gratifying to us that a program from the Philippines was one of the nominees,” said he.
