Tracing Chinese ancestry of stars

President Noynoy Aquino recently visited China, where he traced his Chinese roots. His mother, the beloved Tita Cory (President Corazon Cojuangco Aquino) has Chinese blood, the Cojuangco’s ancestors originally coming from China.
Of course, and it follows that the president’s sister, Kris Aquino, is Chinese mestiza, evident in her flawless, fair complexion.
The late Jaime Cardinal Sin also traced his roots to China.
Even movie queen Susan Roces and Amalia Fuentes have Chinese blood – not to mention French (Susan) and Spanish (Amalia).
THE OTHERS – Of course there are other (many) stars and celebrities with Chinese blood. Think of scriptwriter Ricky Lee and “Star” entertainment editor-columnist Ricky Lo, often mistaken one for the other.
Come to think of it, the grand dame of Philippine high society has Chinese ancestors, Imelda Ongsiako Cojuangco.
A former First Lady, Doña Esperanza Limjap Osmeña, was Chinese mestiza, obvious in her maiden name.
Siblings Dennis Roldan and Isabel Rivas and their cousin Melissa Mendez have Chinese blood, from the Yap side of the family.

MORE, MORE – More Fil-Chinese or Chinoy in showbiz.
The lovely Kim Chiu, whose father is pure Chinese from Cebu.
Dennis Trillo is Florencio Ho offcam. His ex-love, Carlene Aguilar, reigned once as Miss Chinatown.
Gina Alajar’s late father was half-Chinese surnamed Tan. Which makes her son, Ryan, Geoff, and AJ, Chinoy.
Veteran movie writer Nene Riego is actually Normita Tangkeko from a Chinese family from Malabon. Her late husband was Francis Riego, radio announcer.
Mother Lily Monteverde is a Yu, daughter of a copra king of Luzon in the ’40s and ’50s, Domingo Yu.
Jose Mari Chan, Richard Poon, the late talent manager Wyngard Tracy, and entertainment-entrepreneur Richard Tann are of Chinese ancestry.
The Locsins of media, politics, art are Chinoys, Locsin being originally Sin Loc.
In the field of commerce and industry, sports too, think of such family names as Yap, Ang, Sy, Ty, Go, Gokongwei, Tan, See, Tee, Co, Lim, Chan, Kwan, Beng, Yuchengco, Dy, Dee, King, Pe, Po, Fua, Pua, Teng.
